A young motorist had a lot of explaining to do – after writing off his dad’s £275,000 supercar.
The 20-year-old was driving this 225mph Gumpert Apollo around a sharp bend when he lost control of the vehicle with disastrous consequences.
As the car left the road, parts of the exotic car were strewn from the body – with the driver’s door ending up 100ft away.
Amazingly, the driver and his 19-year-old female passenger emerged from the gutted wreck with only minor injuries.
The crash happened near the German town of Brokdorf, 50 miles north of Hamburg.
A police spokesperson said: ”The car is a total loss – only the passenger cabin remained virtually intact.”
Authorities are investigating whether the young motorist was speeding when he lost control of the car so spectacularly on the 50mph road.
The Gumpert Apollo is one of the world’s fastest and most exotic supercars.
It will accelerate from 0-62mph (100kph) in just 2.8 seconds and 0-124mph in 8.8 seconds – before topping out at a staggering 225mph.
When Top Gear tested the Apollo in 2008 it set a record lap time on the show’s famous test track – with only the £1.6 million Bugatti Veyron and Ariel Atom track car going faster since.
