A pizza delivery man is able to take his beloved pet pooch everywhere on his motorbike – after installing a perspex ‘doggie box’ on the back.
Canny Sean Cole, 43, hand-built the transparent kennel and fixed it to the back of his red Kawasaki motorcycle.
He places his dog Gizmo in the box and closes the lid – allowing the fluffy white hound to enjoy a 360 degree view.
The box has special air holes and a fan to keep the one-year-old dog – a Coton de Tulear – nice and cool on each trip.
Sean, of Plymouth, Devon, came up with the idea because he needed to travel and couldn’t take the dog with him.
He said: ”Gizmo enjoys travelling and gets to see more of a view than he would in the car.
”I came up with the idea because I didn’t want to leave Gizmo at home on his own. He’s a lap dog and barks if he you leave him.
”He’s travelled in the car since he was a puppy so I thought he would enjoy being on the bike
”I had a luggage box for the bike and basically cut it in half before using perspex panels to build a box.
”This is only the first version but the general consensus is that it is a great idea. I’ve added a ventilation fan for when its a hot day and we are stuck in traffic.
”When we are driving along I can see his ears and fur flapping in my mirrors so I know he has plenty of air.
”When we get to where we are going he gets out and wanders around before going back in the box home. He’s a very happy little dog and he loves cruising round in his box.”
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the box complied with highways laws.
Having reached the mid-life crisis I am itching to get back on a bike again but we have a 6 month old Scottish Border Terrier and don’t want to simply leave him with someone. This seems like the ideal solution for Me the Wife & the dog but we wondered about the legality of a topbox solution. If it is genuine then I am sure lots of people would be interested.
