SWNS_SWORDFISH_04

This amazing photo shows a swordfish which washed up on British shores yesterday – an extremely rare sight in the UK. See SWNS story SWSWORD: Visitors to Severn Beach on the mouth of the River Severn in South Gloucestershire saw the majestic fish struggling in shallow waters but could not save it. Swordfish are typically found in tropical climes where water temperatures are around 18-22 degrees Celsius and it is “very rare” for them to be spotted in the cold North Sea. They are migratory creatures which move to warmer waters in the winter and cooler waters in the summer. Records show there have been less than 10 sightings of swordfish in British waters over the last 10 years.
