This is the bizarre moment motorists stopped a ‘confused’ man who rode four miles the wrong-way down a busy dual carriageway – on a bright red TRICYCLE.
Keri Beecroft and dad Peter were driving back from a wedding on Sunday evening when they spotted the man pedaling towards on-coming traffic on the three-lane stretch of the A52 in Nottingham.
The man, who was wearing a helmet and hanging his shopping off his handlebars, is believed to have taken a wrong turn as he cycled home and found himself on the outside lane of the 50mph road.
Astonishingly, despite cars driving towards him at high speed, he rode four miles on the wrong side of the carriageway before Keri and Peter managed to stop him.
Mum-of-one Keri, 19, of Eastwood, Nottingham, said: “He was going down there the wrong way, cycling towards the traffic.
“No one else was stopping to help him. We were on the other side heading towards Clifton so we had to come off and turn back.
“We asked what he was doing but he couldn’t talk much. Obviously we realised something wasn’t right.
“He was probably in his 30s and had some kind of learning difficulties. I’d say he was a bit confused.
“I don’t think he knew where he was or where he was going.
“If we hadn’t pulled over, he would have carried on going and someone could have hit him.
“It’s 50mph down there but some people fly down at 80 or 90mph.
“My dad was nearly hit by a van. We rang the police and they turned up to escort the cyclist home.
“Obviously the main worry for us was that no one knew he was missing.
“It must have taken him a while to get there as he wasn’t going very fast.”
A spokeswoman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “We appreciate the members of the public who took the time to call in to police to inform us of this incident.”
