A 27-year-old man was yesterday charged with murdering a businessman who was stabbed to death in broad daylight.
Fausto Graciano was charged with murdering shopkeeper Amarjit Singh Rai.
A post-mortem revealed he died as a result of multiple injuries.
His family yesterday paid tribute to Mr Singh Rai, describing him as a “pillar of strength.”
In a statement released by West Midlands Police, they said: “Amarjit Singh Rai was a loving son, brother, husband and a devout father; he was a pillar of strength and respect within the community.
“His loss is greater than words can express and the tragic way he has been taken away will leave a lifetime of wounds.
“He was a much respected businessman, who was also very giving to all he met.
“We would also like to thank the public for their support in helping the police enquiries.”
Mr Singh Rai was found stabbed to death on Gillott Road, Birmingham, after meeting up with a former employee he had recently sacked.
Friend and customer Geoff Sanderson, 63, said yesterday (Tues): “I couldn’t believe it when I heard he died.
“He was the kindest bloke you could ever wish to meet. He always had time for people, whether they were young or old.
“I heard he had gone to speak to the man to explain why he sacked him and to help him sort his life out.
“That was typical of him, always trying to help people even if they didn’t deserve it.
“He will be a big loss to the local community. He was willing to give anyone a chance.”
