Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has revealed his best is yet to come.
The newly-installed fans’ favourite put in a stunning performance in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United, having a hand in all three goals as Liverpool ran riot.
But the £22.5 million Uruguayan, who beat four players in the penalty box before setting Dirk Kuyt up for Liverpool’s first goal, has admitted that because he’s not playing every week Reds fans will have to wait until they see the best of him.
The number 7, who is unable to play in the Europa Cup, told the club’s website: “It is very difficult for me to play one week and then have to wait two weeks for the next chance to play.
“I am playing one game, and then there is not another game I can play in for a long time, and so it is hard for me to get to the right level physically.
“But I am training well, so that when the chance comes to play again I am ready if the team needs me.
“I think it will take some time before the fans can see the best of me.
“That is what I am working towards every day, doing my best for the fans.”
The 24-year-old front man, who arrived in the January transfer window, has been a revelation – filling the void left by Spanish striker Fernando Torres who left Liverpool for Chelsea.
But while Torres has struggled to fit in at Stamford Bridge, failing to score in his first five matches, Suarez has settled immediately at Anfield.
He scored on his debut against Stoke and put in impressive performances in against Wigan Athletic and West Ham United.
However, he saved his best so far for Liverpool’s emphatic Sunday victory against a beleaguered Manchester United who have now lost three of their last five matches – but still remain top of the table.
Suarez’s performances have turned him into the new darling of the Kop, with many fans comparing him to previous great number 7s, including Peter Beardsley and current boss Kenny Dalglish.
The striker added: “It is great for a new player, someone who has played only four games since coming to Liverpool, to have the support of the public like I did [against United]. It was fantastic.”
