A lorry driver hanged himself after he lost his licence for the second time following a drink driving charge.
James Guilfoyle, 39, planned to make a “new start” after he lost he job as a result of the ban and moved south to be near friends.
But he became depressed and began to sleep rough in the Gloucestershire countryside – where he was discovered dead by a dog walker.
An inquest at Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court heard that he was one year into a four-year driving ban after he lost his licence for the second time in August 2012.
Tammy Bird, James’ sister, told the court: “The information we gathered from friends was that he planned to come to Gloucestershire to make a new start, to see where it took him and he planned to sleep rough until he could find a new place.”
Coroner David Dooley said: “He does seem to have set out to Gloucestershire with the intent to make a fresh start but depression overcame him.
“He was unemployed and unlikely to get his licence back in three years if ever.”
He recorded a conclusion that James, who had moved from Redditch, in Worcestershire, took his own life.
