Kenny Dalglish has heaped praise on midfielder Raul Meireles after the Portuguese star scored another stunning goal.
The in-form midfielder struck a sweet strike for the Reds as they drew one-all with struggling Wigan Athletic at the weekend.
Brazilian Fabio Aurelio went past a defender and crossed from the left with Meireles smashing home a sweet volley for his fifth goal in six matches.
Meireles also scored the winner against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge eight days ago – stealing the limelight from £50 million new boy Fernando Torres.
Boss Kenny Dalglish has praised the midfielder and his “great” technique.
He told the club’s website: “He must have been doing it since he was a kid. It was a great strike. As soon as it fell to him you knew it would hit somewhere around the goal.
“He’s got great technique. It is superb and it’s no surprise he struck it so well. I’ve not seen him practice it but maybe that’s his secret.”
Meireles is fast becoming an Anfield hero following his summer arrival from Porto. Signed by ex-boss Roy Hodgson, Meireles initially struggled to make an impact on Merseyside but has flourished under caretaker boss Dalglish.
One fan on the Red and White Kop forum compared Meireles to Paul Scholes thanks to his touch and vision while another labelled him “absolute class”.
