Two Labour councillors have been suspended by the party after police launched a probe into alleged offensive comments posted on Facebook.
Naseem Ayub, 58, and her husband Mohammad, 58, are being investigating under the Computer Misuse Act and Malicious Communications Act.
The exact nature of the comments remain unknown.
Mrs Ayub, an executive member of Luton Borough Council, has represented the Biscot ward since 2011.
She is also a prospective MEP candidate while her husband has also been a councillor in Biscot since 2007.
An East of England Labour Party spokesperson said: “Following allegations about comments made on Facebook, Councillor Mohammad Ayub and Councillor Naseem Ayub were suspended from the Labour Party.”
A Bedfordshire Police spokeswoman said: “As this investigation is ongoing at this time it would be inappropriate to comment further.
“As no-one has been charged in connection with this investigation we will not confirm the identity of those involved.”
