Video: Kylie Minogue performs pub gig in sleepy Somerset

Locals at a sleepy rural pub were stunned when pop queen Kylie Minogue turned up – and performed a gig in the bar.

The superstar agreed to perform at the Ring O’ Bells in Compton Martin, Somerset, as a favour to her record company Parlophone.

Dozens of staff were staying nearby as part of an ‘away day’ treat and the surprise gig was the highlight of the evening.

Ring O’ Bells managers Reuben and Lauren Goddard were sworn to secrecy by Parlophone boss Miles Leonard, who lives in the village.

The pop princess arrived on her tour bus at 4.30pm last Thursday (19/08) and did a sound check before the doors opened.

Around 120 staff enjoyed performances by various Parlophone artists, including Tinie Tempah, Eliza Doolittle and new signings Morning Parade.

But the finale came at 10.30pm when Kylie walked into the bar and performed five songs in a tiny alcove surrounded by traditional pub brasses.

She sang an acoustic version of her current hit ‘All The Lovers’ and old classics ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ and ‘Locomotion’.

Kylie stayed for a drink afterwards before leaving in her posh tour bus.

Landlady Lauren, 32, said: ”It was all quite surreal to be honest. It’s not the sort of thing you expect to see in a quiet local pub like this.

”We were sworn to secrecy and didn’t even tell the staff until 30 minutes before the doors opened.

”Kylie was very friendly and down-to-earth. She didn’t make any demands and she was very polite.”

Landlord Reuben, 25, added: ”The locals were shocked but we all had an evening we’ll never forget. It’s a bit out of the ordinary for round here.”

One member of staff said: ”It was surreal having Kylie play in a normal little pub – one of the strangest gigs I’ve ever been to.”
