A killer who murdered a vulnerable old man with a frying pan has moaned to prison bosses – after they refused to give him his favourite BISCUITS.
Deranged Stephen Kidd, 39, is serving 17 years for murdering 60-year-old Darren Presley.
He covered Mr Presley with paint before battering him over the head with a frying pan and stabbing him repeatedly with pal Lee Mason, 35.
Kidd has now moaned about the lack of oatcakes – a traditional Stoke-on-Trent snack – at a ‘cultural awareness’ week held at HMP Dovegate, Staffs.
He demanded prison bosses give him oatcakes and bizarrely accused them of being racist and failing to be ”inclusive” when they refused.
In a letter to lags magazine Inside Time, Kidd ranted: ”We are having a ‘cultural awareness week’ here at the moment.
”The food being supplied includes chicken wings (South America), corn pone (Jamaica), onion bhaji (India), fried dumplings (Caribbean), and Danish pastry (Denmark).
”This prison is now the local jail for the Stoke-on-Trent courts and, as such, holds a large majority of Staffordshire men.
”As a ‘Stokey’ myself I’ve taken up the issue of trying to get oatcakes – our traditional dish – onto the menu, or at least in the canteen.
”The prison tell us that oatcakes cannot be ‘locally sourced’, but this seems strange as we are actually in Staffordshire – oatcake heaven.
”We managed to get oatcakes at HMP Shrewsbury which, while not local, does hold a lot of Staffordshire men.
”If oatcakes can be sourced in a prison 40 miles away from Staffordshire, then why can they not be sourced here?
”Our race relations rep here was told that we’d get them this week, but though there is a diverse array of foreign food on offer, no oatcakes.
”Even on August 8th – Oatcake Day – we did not get our traditional food.
”As proud Staffordshire people, that is like saying we don’t matter.
”It seems cultural awareness is far from inclusive.”
Kidd and Mason were caged in 2009 and ordered to serve a minimum of 17 years for killing Mr Presely at his home in Blackpool.
The court heard that Kidd smashed a bottle over Mr Presley’s head and covered him in paint before the pair stabbed, beat and stamped on him.
The killing was described as ‘torture’ by investigating officer Detective Superintendent Kevin Toole.
Speaking at the time, he said: ”It was a brutal and violent murder on a man who offered no threat to these men.
”Darren Presley was a vulnerable, kind old man who was exploited by the callous defendants to finance alcohol and he suffered numerous and frequent bullying episodes.”
