Teen superstar Justin Bieber sparked a shopping frenzy by rocking up to a meeting in a pair of unconventional trainers.
The Canadian heartthrob met fans in Milwaukee, USA, while sporting a pair of Heelys – the skate shoes which come with rollers on the sole.
And within minutes of the meeting, the shoe brand was trending worldwide on Twitter as thousands of the pop star’s followers chatted about the footwear.
The buzz resulted in Heelys’ UK website breaking traffic records – with more users checking out the trainers than they do at Christmas.
Vicki Ruddlesdin, spokesperson for the website, said: “We managed to cope, just.
“Heelys are very popular with teenagers but we would never have expected such a massive reaction – it would have been great to have had some advance notice!
“Right now we are busier than we are in the last weeks before Christmas – so stock ordered in for then is going out now and more is on the way from the US.”
Currently on his ‘Believe’ tour, the young idol – who has 29 million followers – is used to the crazy reaction of his fans, or ‘Beliebers’, to the extent that it is termed Bieber Fever.
Vicki added: “Lots of the fans getting in touch want to know which Heelys he was wearing so they can get exactly the same style, but from blurred pictures taken by fans at the time it has not been possible to identify them.”
When the singer tweeted a picture of his new hamster called ‘PAC’ over the weekend it caused another enormous online reaction.
One fan who Bieber especially made time for was young brain cancer suffer Hailey Roser, age 5, who met her hero before the sell-out show.
