Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole is unlikely to face former club Chelsea this Sunday after suffering a knee injury.
The England star, 29, picked up a knock in training and missed last night’s two-nil victory against Stoke City.
Kenny Dalglish confirmed the injury to Radio City sports commentator Steve Hothersall and said Cole was a doubt for the clash against Chelsea.
It’s the latest setback for Cole who has had a stuttering spell on Merseyside.
He was sent-off on his debut against Arsenal, missed a penalty in the Europa Cup and then suffered a hamstring injury in October. Cole’s only moment of success was when he scrambled home a goal in the two-one win at home to Bolton on January 1.
Sunday’s clash between Chelsea and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge is expected to be one of the fiercest of the season following the champions’ £50 million signing of Fernando Torres.
Chelsea fans have already re-worked Liverpool’s famous Fernando Torres song while a pair of sports journalists supporting either team were involved in a war of words on social networking site Twitter.
