The Great Birmingham Run is one of several sporting events sponsored by Bupa that encourage thousands across the nation to indulge in a healthier lifestyle by participating in physical activity.
The 2014 Great Birmingham Run was held on the 19th October and featured over 20,000 runners.
JobLogic Service Management Software entered five participants from various areas in the business. Anticipation was high amongst employees and customers alike, with many wondering in what order the participants would finish. The JobLogic results for the race were as follows:
1. Abdullahi Mohamed – 01:56:35 10k time 00:54:18
2. Yacoob Moolla – 02:07:38 10k time 00:52:42
3. Theodore Bigby – 02:14:24 10k time 00:47:02
4. Richard Pryce – 02:19:14 10k time 01:01:20
5. Conner Lee – Did Not Finish
The service management company decided to take part in the run to raise money for charity and as a way for the team to bond, setting a combined finishing time of 10 hours as a target to beat. With five participants, this required their finishing times to be close together and several of them to be under two hours.
Although that target was not reached on this occasion, several members of the team have committed to participating again next year and intend to beat their previous times.
The race began with a sweeping downhill section passing Victoria Square, before making its way towards Chinatown. The home stretch brings the runners down Broad Street where hundreds of people from across the region lined the streets to bring the runners home.
The pre-race favourite was Yacoob Moolla, JobLogic’s technical director who eventually finished second in a time of 02:07:38. The dark horse in the race was Abdullahi, who smashed the completion to finish in the amazing time of 01:56:35.
“My tactics were just to keep running. Run at a steady pace and try to stay ahead of people who were behind me,’ he said.
The whole day was a success with everyone working hard and doing their best for Macmillan Cancer Care. After this year’s marathon, Richard Pryce hopes to take on a full marathon distance in the next year, before returning to attempt the Great Birmingham Run again next year. The whole team gained a lot from the event both personally and as a team, coming together after the race to reflect on it and plan for next year.
