A motorsport enthusiast with less than £2,000 can now get their hands on an F1 star’s very own vehicle – Jenson Button’s MOPED.
For 19 weekends of the year, F1 drivers lap the world’s toughest tracks in the most technologically advanced race cars.
But to get around Silverstone and Monaco between qualifying and the race, each driver is allocated their own pit scooter.
In 2004, Brit superstar Jenson Button was handed this modest Honda Dylan 125cc by his then race team, BAR.
The ‘Twist ’n Go’ moped was used by the Frome star for whizzing around circuits for the season.
And it was an impressive year for the star as he picked up ten podiums – leading the then 24-year-old to 85 points and third place in the Drivers’ Championship.
With a 125cc engine, the nippy little Honda moped is capable of around 65mph – while managing a frugal 120mpg.
This is in vast contrast to the 4mpg Button will typically get from the F1 currently built for him by McLaren.
The moped is being now being sold for just £1,950 by a 43-year-old company director of Reading, Berks, who wishes to remain anonymous.
He said: “It was an impulse purchase by me as an F1 fan. There was an auction at Bonhams and this came up for sale.
“I thought it was quite unusual to have something from Formula One which you can actually use in the real world.
“I have had the scooter for three years now and have too much stuff in my garage so I have decided to sell it.
“Hopefully it will go to someone who likes Jenson Button and appreciates it for what it is.
“I spent £350 having it serviced and MOT’d last year and for £1,950 it is a bargain if you want something connected to Formula One.”
For less than £2,000, the scooter – which is being advertised on Pistonheads.com – is considerably cheaper than most of Jenson Button’s old vehicles.
Last year, a Ferrari Enzo previously owned by the Somerset star was sold for £964,000.
