Scottish filmmakers First and Only Ltd. has reached over 50% of its target of £120,000 investment via crowd funding platform Seedrs.com offering the public an opportunity to share in the success of a forthcoming feature film first and only.
The Edinburgh-based company has released a limited number of shares, enabling small & large investors to invest in the film for an equity share and a range of unique perks.
Funds raised for the film will contribute to costs of development and pre-production. Filming is expected to begin in the autumn of 2016.
First and Only Ltd. is the production company setup by filmmaker Magnus Wake. Having acquired the options to the rights for First and Only, a bestselling Kindle novel, he then raised over £50,000 pounds for the film via the Indiegogo crowd-funding platform in November 2014.
“Filmmaking remains an exciting and unique business proposition where the returns can be lucrative when you get the formula right,” comments director Magnus Wake. “We know we’ve got a great story. The Amazon reviews for the book are off the scale. Combine that with an experienced production team and we’re confident we’re going to produce a winner.”
First and Only Ltd. has already met with success. They produced a short prologue of the film that captured a key element of the story. This short film featured in the Short Film Corner of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It was also part of the official selection at the London Independent Film Festival.
Development of talent is also a driving ambition. According to Magnus Wake, “We want to make an engaging, exciting film that works creatively and commercially. It’s also important that we encourage and support others as they develop their careers. Just as we did with our short film we’ll be looking to take as many people with us and explore new talent so everyone can share in the success of First and Only.”
