A PR industry expert has designed a course to help small business promote themselves.
Melissa Talago said that many independent owners needed publicity but couldn’t afford costly campaigns with agencies.
She has now released a 30 day training course with 12 modules that teach the essentials of publicity and promotion.
Melissa, who runs Campfire Communications, said: ‘PR is one of the most effective and affordable marketing tools a small business can use to build its brand. But many don’t think about it because they aren’t sure what PR is or how to do it.
‘Others simply can’t afford the rates charged by PR companies. I am on a mission to help these organisations learn the skills they need so that they can tell their stories effectively to the press without paying someone to do it for them,’
The course costs £499 and covers a range of subjects like how to find newsworthy stories in a business, how to create news, how to find press contacts, how to write effective press releases and pitches, how to maximise press coverage and what to do in an interview.
It includes 12 online training modules with exercises and templates, ongoing feedback on the coursework submitted, and four training calls. After 30 days, users will have a comprehensive communications plan for the year ahead.
Melissa added: ‘Many business owners set New Year resolutions like learning something new or growing their business. This 30 day challenge will help them achieve both.
‘The course also offers an additional revenue stream for business coaches, virtual assistants, copywriters and marketers who want to add PR as one of their services.’
