I’m A Celebrity 2010 has been thrown in to turmoil after Gillian McKeith’s meltdowns sparked fears she could quit, and bosses have now been forced to draft in three extra celebs.
The Sun reported that comedians Jenny Eclair and Dom Joly will enter the jungle today and This Morning’s Alison Hammond should be joining them in a few days.
Jenny claimed she was among eight celebs who have been lined up in case any contestants quit.
She told The Sun: “One moment I was in my bath in Camberwell, the next I was at Heathrow. I’m on the reserve bench. I think there are eight of us. I hope I’m fourth on the list because I have a horrible feeling I could lose it in minutes. I don’t like spiders and snakes.”
Viewers saw nutritionist Gillian, 51, suffer a panic attack and collapse after taking part in a bushtucker trial. She claims to have a phobia of insects and maintains that she was not aware of what the show would involve.
But her dramatic reactions have led to speculation that she may be playing up for the cameras.
Joe Swoosh, co-host of ITV2 spin-off I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Now, claimed she was faking her reactions after she was spotted on TV pulling her T-Shirt down to cover her spanx underwear despite being ‘unconscious.’
He told The Sun: ‘I think she’s a little bit more calculated than everyone is thinking.
‘I can’t believe people aren’t seeing this and are falling for it. She didn’t faint. She is faking it. Everyone knows what goes on in this show. Did her agent not tell her?’
An ITV source denied that eight celebs had been flown to Australia, but wouldn’t rule out that they had replacements on stand-by.
