The TV nutritionist, 51, drew huge viewing figures with her fainting fits and over-the-top screaming whenever she saw an insect. But she was also accused of faking her reactions by both viewers and celebrities.
On hearing the news that she’d been voted out, Gillian declared: “I’m the happiest person alive!”
And in her exit interview with hosts Ant and Dec she insisted that her fainting had been genuine.
She said: “I have a history of fainting, it’s not something that I would ever want to do – it feels horrible. When I stood up my legs felt like jelly and then I woke up with the mask on. It’s horrible.”
Gillian also insisted she had had no idea what to expect as she does not own a TV and had never watched the show.
Meanwhile her co-star Britt Eckland, who was voted out on Sunday, laid into Gillian and branded her “appalling.”
The former Bond girl, 68, told The Sun: “I think she has been so incredibly appalling that I won’t take her email address. I won’t have anything to do with her.
“I found her behaviour and lack of knowledge about the show absolutely astounding for a professional woman. She is a fake – a bloody good fake but a bloody annoying one.”
Britt wasn’t the only celeb to clash with Gillian in the jungle. She also had several run-ins with former Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder, who declared: “If Gillian was my wife she would be in pieces in a plastic bag deep in a hole in the back garden.”
Gillian declared she was backing bookie’s favourite Stacey Soloman, 21, to be crowned queen of the jungle this weekend.
