A furious mum has removed her 15-year-old daughter from school after claiming a male teacher said the youngster’s goth outfit made her “look like she does bondage”.
Kaye Warner, 33, demanded that Erin-Anais Hart (corr) be sent home when she received a call from the teenager who was told to “cover up” for non-uniform day.
Erin turned up at King Charles I School in Kidderminster, Worcs., last Friday (12/6) wearing a stud-collar, leather jacket, T-shirt, flat ankle boots and knee-high leggings.
But when Miss Warner asked why her daughter had to wear something different for the charity day, she claims she was told Erin was showing “too much flesh”.
She also claims a male member of staff told her over the phone that Year 10 pupil Erin-Anais “looks like she does bondage”.
Miss Warner, who runs a dog behaviourist business, has since removed her daughter from the school permanently and enrolled her somewhere else.
She fumed: “Erin called me whilst I was at work and said she needed some trousers and I asked why and I asked to speak to whatever teacher was present.
“I said why does she need trousers and they said it’s not appropriate, she is showing too much flesh.
“I told them to send my daughter home and said she won’t be returning because she was having a real bad time at that school anyway.
“Two hours later they rang to see if she had got back okay. I had emailed her head of year asking her to contact me but she didn’t.
“But a member of staff did ring and said what she had on was inappropriate and said he didn’t like her style.
“When I questioned him again as to why he did not like what she was wearing and what I should tell my daughter when she asks me why she has come home from school, he replied ‘she looks like she does bondage’.
“I was absolutely disgusted. She is 15-years-old. I had to explain to my daughter what bondage was, because she didn’t even know.
“She was absolutely mortified at the thought of people looking at her in that sense.”
Kaye, who lives with Erin-Anais and her brother Pud, eight, in Kidderminster, said she bought the leggings for her daughter from an alternative clothes shop.
She added: “She went to school on the non-uniform day in a black T-shirt, a black jacket, flat black ankle boots and black leggings with holes at the knee.
“I had bought her the trousers from an alternative shop. She just looks normal in them. I saw nothing wrong with her outfit.
“My daughter doesn’t wear mini-skirts and boob tubes, she wears black and she covers up.
“She skateboards and does karate, she isn’t the type to try and dress up sexually.
“I went to school on Monday or Tuesday this week to drop a form off and spoke to the head of year.
“We have been back since to get her things from the locker but I have had a no apologies and the headmaster hasn’t contacted me.
“It was the last straw for me and I have removed her completely from the school. She will not be returning there and will be starting a new school in a few weeks.”
A school spokesman said: “We do not comment on individual cases but would stress that we aim to provide a positive and successful learning environment for our students, free from disruption and distraction, and that includes enforcement of our dress code.
“Standards are applied even on non-uniform days to ensure that all students are dressed appropriately.”
The spokesman refused to say whether the member of staff had been quizzed over the ‘bondage’ allegation, saying: “We never comment on individual circumstances.”
* King Charles I School is a larger than average mixed secondary school which also has a large sixth form on the same site.
There are over 1,200 pupils on the roll and the school received a ‘good’ rating at its last Ofsted inspection in October 2011.
