Honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani today returned home three days after he was rushed to hospital amid fears he had tried to take his own life.
Businessman Dewani, 31, accused of killing bride Anni, 28, in November, was rushed to hospital on Sunday in what was initially reported as a suicide attempt.
But sources close to Shrien claim he had ”no intention” of killing himself and was taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary purely as a ”precautionary” measure after suffering a reaction to sleeping tablets.
Family spokesman Max Clifford yesterday revealed he was suffering from ”post traumatic stress disorder” and described him as ”very fragile”.
Shrien was driven into his £1.5million family mansion in Westbury-on-Trym in a black BMW after leaving Bristol Royal Infirmary with his tycoon father Prakash.
Max Clifford, representing Shrien, yesterday said: ”Shrien was taken to hospital on Sunday, he is suffering post-traumatic stress disorder.
”He is very fragile both mentally and physically. Shrien’s family are very worried about him and doctors increasingly concerned.
”He has lost a lot of weight.”
Friends of Shrien previously revealed he was under 24-hour suicide watch from his worried family after struggling through losing his wife Anni.
He is also concerned he will not get a fair trial in South Africa, where Anni was found with a bullet wound to her neck.
She died in Cape Town’s Gugulethu township in November last year, just weeks after marrying Shrien in a lavish ceremony.
The couple’s taxi driver, Zola Tongo, 31, was jailed for 18 years in December after claiming he had been paid by Dewani to have Anni killed.
Shrien is currently awaiting an extradition hearing in May, where it will be decided whether he will be forced to return to South Africa and face trial.
Two other South African men, Xolile Mngeni and Mziwamadoda Qwabe are due in court on Friday on charges of robbery, kidnap and murder.
