Fox rescued after getting its head stuck in watering can

This is the moment a hapless fox was rescued after it got its head trapped in a WATERING CAN.

The animal had its head wedged in the top of the watering can for at least TWO DAYS.

The male fox was believed to have been chasing either a mouse or a frog when it rammed its head in the 10cm (4in) wide hole at the top of the can.

RSPCA officer Jonathan Ratcliffe rescued the animal when it was spotted in a back garden of a bungalow in Solihull, West Mids., on September 9.

He said: ”The fox was thrashing about in quite a distressed state when we got there.

”I have no doubt that he would have died if we had not managed to get the watering can off, either from dehydration or from not seeing where he was going and so being killed by a car.

”The watering can was covered in moss and mould and looked as if it was litter.

”This only goes to remind people of the dangers such discarded items can pose to wildlife.”

The animal was so firmly stuck it took two officers to prise its head out of the can.

Jonathan then used a 6ft long grasper to snare the animal and inspect it before releasing it into the wild.

He added: ”My feeling is that there must have been a mouse or a frog or something at the bottom of the can – some sort of tasty snack which would have attracted him to put his head in.”
