Dave Kemp and partner Susan Dixon, both 50, bought the family home in 2000 and a few years later he set about constructing his retreat. The 25-foot wide chalet at the bottom of their garden took six months and about £10,000 to build and kit out. It has a bar, pool table, jukebox and plasma TV and outdoor decking and the interior is clad and wood and fully insulated with electric heating and lighting.
