A promising young footballer was arrested on suspicion of rape – just days before he made his international under-21 debut.
Bristol Rovers winger Ellis Harrison was detained with another man to answer rape allegations made by two women.
The 19-year-old, who has just signed a three-year deal with the League Two side, was arrested in March alongside the unnamed 21-year-old.
They have been bailed pending further investigation, and must return to a Bristol police station next month.
A Bristol Rovers spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the allegations that have been made and as this is a current police investigation, we are unable to comment further.”
Harrison, from Newport, South Wales, has hit the back of the net three times in his 20 appearances since he joined the Pirates in 2011.
He was called up to the Wales under-21 squad for their one-nil victory over Moldova shortly before his arrest.
Avon and Somerset police spokeswoman Catherine Foster said: “A 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of rape.
“They have been bailed pending further enquiries. There are allegedly two female adult victims.”
