A mother is urging upmarket fashion store Calvin Klein to redesign their displays after her two year-old daughter horrifically HOOKED her eyelid on an underwear rail.
Little Poppy Cooper was out shopping with her mum Jenny, dad Ryan and sister Emie when she walked into the low-level rack.
Her left eyelid became stuck on the upturned hook at the end of the rail and she started screaming.
Frantic Jenny tried to pull her free as she started bleeding and her other daughter began crying at the sight.
Distressed Poppy was eventually released and an ambulance was called to the store at the Ashford Designer Outlet in Kent.
She was taken to A&E at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford where a scan revealed a cut inside her upper eyelid.
She stayed overnight and had surgery the following day and is now back home in the town.
But days later she is still unable to open her eye, which is swollen and very sore.
Beautician Jenny, 33, said: “The hook was under her eyelid. Her eyelid was the shape of the square bit. I pulled her but it was stuck.
“She was screaming and there was blood everywhere. My other daughter was in a state.
“We are praying for the best but her eye is still very swollen.
“We cried all weekend – I just wanted to swap places with Poppy.”
She added: “It doesn’t feel real if I’m honest.
“I have always been paranoid about the end of the railings.”
Jenny and Ryan, 31, a civil servant, are now calling for a review of the shop’s layout as they fear another child will get hurt.
She said: “Walking towards the railings, you cannot see where the bar and hangers begin.
“I called the store on Monday to say I was worried and they said they were doing an incident report.
“They need rubber on the ends of the rails or something bright, so people can see where they start.”
A Calvin Klein spokesman said: “We take these matters very seriously. We regret the incident and are working towards a resolution with the parties involved.”
