They may not be quite as rich as David and Victoria – but from now on they will be able to spend it like Beckham.
Down-to-earth football fan Colin Weir, 64 and wife Chris, 55, drive a Suzuki and have lived in the same modest home for 18 years.
But now they have been rocketed into the super-rich bracket after scooping Europe’s biggest ever Lottery win – £161,653,000.
The couple didn’t even know they had won as the lottery draw clashed with their favourite TV programme CSI.
But the couple now plan to travel the world, move home and buy a new car. They also want to buy their children their own houses and pay for driving lessons.
Colin wants to go and see his favourite football team Barcelona and may even splash out on a private box.
Retired TV cameraman Colin said: ”When we first realised we had won, it felt like a dream. Everything went into slow motion.
”But it feels like a good thing; something we should not be afraid of but for us to enjoy with the children.
”All our lives we have lived within our means and been comfortable. We appreciate that this money brings about a whole new life for us and our family.
”We now have so many new opportunities to explore but we won’t rush it. For us, it will be a gradual change with choices to be made.”
Chris told how they won with the final line of five lucky dips on Tuesday night after a quiet night in watching CSI.
Retired psychiatric nurse Chris said: ”At about midnight I decided to it was time to turn in but I did just quickly check the EuroMillions results on Teletext in the bedroom.
”We had bought five lucky dips as the jackpot was so big. I started circling the numbers I had matched but wasn’t doing very well.
”Then on the fifth line all the circles seemed to join up. I had all of them but couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I checked them three or four times before going back downstairs to find Colin.
”He knew immediately from my face and tone that something was up.”
The couple, from Largs, North Ayrshire, could not make their claim on the night because the Camelot line was closed but were too excited to sleep and stayed awake all night before watching the sun rise on their new life.
”I even had a glass of white wine,” said Chris, ”which is something I normally only do at Christmas. It is really unbelievable.”
Neighbours described the lotto winners as ”extremely down to earth”.
The couple, who retired from their jobs due to ill-health about three years ago, have lived in their modest four-bedroom home, in Largs for 18 years.
John Cantell, 64, who lives two doors down from the couple, said: ”They have lived here since these houses were built 18 years ago.
”I know them for about 14 years but haven’t spoken to them since the weekend and had no idea they won the money. I am stunned.
”They are quite quiet and don’t often come out of their house. They are extremely down to earth. I think it is great that they have won the money.
”I don’t think they will go over-the-top with the money. I think they will be quite conservative.”
The Weirs lost an estimated £20,000 in interest because they didn’t claim their staggering windfall until Thursday, but that shouldn’t make too much of a dent in their winnings.
After all, they will earn a whopping #5m in interest every year without doing anything.
They are now richer than Beatles drummer Ringo Starr (£150m), musician Phil
Collins (£115m) superstar David Bowie (£100m) and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne (£95m).
The couple have more than TRIPLE the wealth of Oasis brothers Noel and Liam
Gallagher (£55m) and pint sized singing superstar, Kylie Minogue (£40m).
But they fall just behind the Beckhams, who are worth £165m.
Colin and his wife are now the 22nd richest people in Scotland and are ranked 430 on the Sunday Times Richlist, behind property tycoon Brian Scowcroft and Janet Lefton.
The couple have played Euromillions since it started in 2004.
They bought their the winning lucky dip tickets at McColls on Moorburn Road, Largs. The winning numbers 17, 19, 38, 42 and 45, and the Lucky Star numbers were 9 and 10.
They have two grown-up children, Carly, 24, and Jamie, 22. Carly studies photography at college and Jamie works in a call centre.
The couple plan to go travelling as well as move house and buy a new car.
They also plan to buy their children their own houses and pay for driving lessons. Colin wants to go and see his favourite football team Barcelona.
Chris added: ”For Colin, holidays have never really appealed, with travelling being such a hassle for him – but First Class could definitely persuade him.
”We have both always wanted to see the Great Wall of China and Colin would love to stand at the foot of Ayres Rock in Australia.
”We also love art galleries so this gives us the chance to visit those in Paris and in Russia. These are all things we thought we would never see.
”The kids are very down to earth and we are confident they will remain level-headed. They have some great friends who we know will give them lots of support and of course they have a fantastic chance in life now to follow their dreams and do whatever they want.”
The Weir now top the Lottery’s all-time winners’ list, ahead of an anonymous player who scooped £113,019,926 in October 2010 and another un-named winner who claimed £84,451,320.60 last May.
The previous biggest UK lottery winners to go public are Nigel Page, 43 and Justine Laycock, 41 from Cirencester, Gloucester, who pocketed £56m last February.
They join the 70 other Scots who made it into the Sunday Times top 1,000 richest people.
The couple now displace former postal worker Angela Kelly from East Kilbride as Scotland’s biggest winner.
She scooped a EuroMillions jackpot of£35,425,411.80 in August 2007.
Friday’s Euromillions is now estimated at £13million and Sat Lotto £6.1million.

161million takeaways should see them happy!
The art they would like they can buy and stick in the front room while they carry-on watching daytime tv.
There is a god this pair will never spend a fraction of this wealth unless they dump it on Utd winning the league next season.
MCFC rule!
Its a sad indictment of modern society that on the news it shows you two overweight people winning more money than a Thousand people could need in a life time; the next headline shows you a Thousand people starving with not enough for one person to eat in a day!!!
….. wonder what impact it will make on 2 people who like sitting indoors watching Tv and eating junk food rather than going to work. Not suprised they have ill health carrying all that weight around would destroy anyones health.
its a shame its too much for a family to spend , im happy they won it , but wouldnt it be better to have smaller prizes like 1 million pounds and change the lives of 161 familys rather than just one . good luck all next time you play
WELL DONE COLIN AND CHRIS. Don’t listen to the bitter nasty comments of jealous people. Enjoy 🙂 x
lol… they are a pair of thumb heads! lol
well done! enjoy it and dont listen to all the idiots

i think its great that they’ve won it and have worked until their ill health had made it hard to work im glad it was a teenager who would have won and took life for granted and not made anything of their life well done the family will have a lovely life to look forward to
Wow!! You get some jealous idiots on here. Would you be spouting the same crap if you had one in?! Yeah they may weigh a bit more than you but whilst your sitting in a dead end job or scrounging off us tax payers they will be laughing it up all over the world with money you could only dream of having!! so get a grip of your life and stop hating. Well done to them !!
anybody who puts the lottery on deserves to win it, its the luck of the draw. good on them. Wonder what you jealous pricks would say if somebody slagged you off for winning, sad bastards. thats why you will never win, its called karma!
Congratulations to you both
As they say money doesnt buy you Happieness but by god it helps 😀
I hope all your dreams are forefilled ,
And hopefully one day I am as lucky as you both, Fingers crossed x
This is a reply to all those who had made very nasty and derogatory comments about the winners – Honestly, listen to yourselfs, get a Life and think about how you are reacting and actually how you must look to others. There have already been other people comment on your attitude. It’s not just money that makes the world go round but how we as people are to others. Treat people with respect and you may find your own life may not be so difficult or make you feel the way that you do.
listen DAZ money makes the world go round .if ther was no money the world would STOP!!! end of
Well well Connelly Jack, looks like your another one of those idiots. If you actually read my post properly you wouldn’t have said what you just did. I didn’t say money didn’t make the world go round, I said it wasn’t just money that made the world go round – suck it up dude – prat!
aww well done, hope it helps all you’re family out in the future, personally I wouldn’t want that much money, it’s quite overwhelming and scarey, I would have been happy with £100,000 just so I could sleep properly at night and safeguard my childrens future, but I think I’m one of those people that’s just meant to struggle, so be it, can’t see it ever happening to me, not in this lifetime anyway. but well done and take all the advice you can, remember your roots and whats important, FAMILY x
