A disabled driver was hit with a £70 parking fine after one of his car’s wheels was millimetres over his parking bay.
Livid Colin Way, 81, discovered the notice on his car as he was preparing to pop to the shops to buy groceries.
He was hit with a £70 fine, reduced to £35 if he paid within 14 days, because his back wheel was just over the line onto the pavement.
Parking bosses say his Vauxhall Meriva was “not parked correctly” because of one tyre was touching the path outside his home in Melton Mowbray, Leics.
If he had simply straightened his back wheels, he would have been fully within the parking area.
Retired pub landlord Colin, who has parked in the bay outside his home for more than 30 years without incident, said: “I’ve been parking on my drive outside my house for the
last 35 years and I’ve never had a ticket in all that time.
“They sent me four photos showing the car and they are very dark – you can’t really see very clearly where the car is.
“But it must have been only a couple of inches outside my driveway.
“To give me a ticket for that is ridiculous. I’ve even got a blue bagde on my car because of my arthritis but clearly the warden didn’t care about that either.
“Some jobsworth has obviously got targets to meet and spotted my car nudging the pavement and thought he can top up his quota of fines.
“I’m 81 and I don’t need the stress of all this.
“I’ve always parked in this way outside the house so I’ve probably had my wheel slightly outside the drive before but never had a ticket.
“My next-door neighbour got a parking ticket for parking on his drive as well and he is not very happy either.”
Colin, who has two grown-up children and lives with his wife Margaret, 80, agreed to pay the £35 to avoid a larger fine but has appealed against the penalty.
Leicestershire County Council have refused to revoke the fine which was issued on September 18.
Council bosses say a “no waiting” restriction on roads with a double or single yellow line restriction applies from the centre of the carriageway to the highway boundary.
A spokesperson said: “Our parking officers are trained to observe parking offences and establish whether there is a legitimate reason for issuing a parking penalty.
“Vehicle owners have the opportunity to appeal against penalties and all cases are considered on an individual basis.
“A written explanation is given when requests for cancellations are not accepted and drivers then have the option of appealing to an independent tribunal.”
