Eastenders actor Steve MacFadden helped raise £15,000 for charity by swimming one mile across a river. Steve, 51, who plays Phil Mitchell in the hit BBC soap – swam across the River Fal in Cornwall to raise funds for the RNLI lifeboat charity.
He took 30 minutes to front crawl between the two castles at Pendennis Point and St Mawes after setting off at 12.30pm. All 250 entrants had to guarantee at least £500 sponsorship for the lifeguard appeal in order to take part in the event.
Steve said: ”I’m only too aware of the value of the charity’s lifeguards and volunteer lifeboat crews and this is my way of showing them my appreciation.”
