A drunk smashed a glass into the face of a drag queen when he banned him from singing KARAOKE.
Peter Couzens, 41, saw red when cross-dressing David Welton told him he couldn’t belt out a tune in a packed gay nightclub because there were no slots left.
Couzens threw his drink over the camp compere who was appearing under his stage name Misty Lee before slamming his glass into his face.
The attack left David scarred for life as it sliced open his top lip and left him needing six stitches.
He was pulled from the stage at the Poison Ivy club in Brighton, East Sussex, covered in blood as Couzens was kicked out by security staff.
David told Lewes Crown Court he was scared to go back to his job and had to take time off work to recover after the assault in April.
Couzens, who has a history of violence, admitted causing actual bodily harm.
The court heard he has nine convictions for 17 previous offences including a six-month suspended sentence for pushing a woman off a stool at a gay bar.
Alexia Power, prosecuting, said: “The victim was working in Poison Ivy as a female impersonator.
“He was standing on the karaoke stage. All the slots for karaoke had gone.
“When he explained that to the defendant Couzens threw the contents of his drink over him.
“He then threw the glass at him.”
Lucinda Dore, defending, said Couzens was taking medication for mental health problems, but admitted he had caused actual bodily harm to the popular drag act.
She said: “It was a permanent injury. He has no recollection of what happened.
“Couzens is on a huge amount of medication.
“The court psychiatry nurse commented she had never seen someone on that level of medication.”
Judge Charles Kemp said: “It’s a horrible glassing in a nightclub. Ordinarily there would be an immediate custodial sentence.”
The case was adjourned for sentencing in October, so the probation service could prepare psychiatric reports on Couzens, from Brighton.
