A motorist was almost killed and his car written off after it was hit by a runaway – BUS WHEEL.
Terrified Nigel Cox, 64, was driving his Ford Focus with his wife when he suddenly collided with the tubber tyre.
The wheel had fallen off a moving bus and bounced along the road before hitting their car head-on.
The 150kg (330lbs) tyre collided with the front of the blue 08-plate motor before bouncing over the bonnet and rolling 200yds down the street, in Bledlow Ridge, Bucks,.
Nigel, a parish councillor, said it caused so much damage the car has now been written off by insurers.
He said: “It’s a miracle we survived really. I was with my wife who was very shaken up, but luckily there were no injuries.
“It could have been RIP for both of us if the wheel had gone into the windscreen. The bus driver was as shocked as I was. He hadn’t ever seen anything like that before.”
Nigel spoke with the bus driver, who was carrying three passengers on the Red Rose Travel bus from High Wycombe to Oxford.
The single-decker coach lost its near-side rear wheel when it came round a bend on November 5.
Nigel’s car was completely written off, as the heavy wheel smashed into the radiator and destroyed the engine and bent the car’s frame, before bouncing off into a hedge.
A spokesman for Red Rose Travel refused to comment.
