David Beckham has been tipped by bookies as a favourite to receive a knighthood from the Queen in the New Year, along with X Factor boss Simon Cowell.
The Daily Star reported that bookies have slashed the odds on Beckham becoming a ‘Sir’ to 3/1 following his lifetime achievement award at the BBC Sports Personality of the year awards this weekend.
Prince William, who worked with Becks on England’s World Cup bid, heaped praise on the football legend following the awards show.
Wills said: “His contribution to football is exceptional. He is an example to young footballers of how to play the game with skill, integrity and determination.”

Music mogul Simon Cowell is also a favourite to be named on the Queen’s honours list, which will be announced on 31 December, with bookies placing his odds at 11/8.
Politicians are reportedly backing him to receive a knighthood for his services to charity and entertainment.
The X Factor judge worked with Prime Minister Gordon Brown on a charity single for victims of the Haiti earthquake earlier this year, which managed to raise over £1 million for the Disasters’ Emergency Committee.
