Liverpool Kenny Dalglish has heaped praise on Joe Cole, saying the midfielder could “open a can of beans”.
The 29-year-old England international, who signed on a free transfer last summer, has so far failed to make an impact at Anfield.
Arriving with a big reputation and high hopes, Cole’s Liverpool career had a nightmare start when he was sent off on his debut against Arsenal at Anfield.
Since then the Londoner has struggled with form and fitness with rumours circulating in January that he’d only stay at Liverpool for one season.
But manager Kenny Dalglish has assured fans that Cole is very much in his plans, heaping praise on the midfielder’s technical ability.
He told the club’s official website: “Joe certainly looks really sharp in training.
“He’s done nothing but good over the last couple of weeks when he’s been fit enough to train and he did well enough against Sparta last week.
“Joe has the ability to open up a can of beans. He’s a talented footballer and we will try our best to get that out of him.
“He’s positive, he’s lively and he’s bubbly. Steve Clarke coming in will have helped him as well because he has worked with him before. We have no problems with Joe.”
Liverpool face Sparta Prague in the Europa Cup at Anfield tonight needing a win to progress to the last 16 – and lacking a major source of firepower.
They are without the injured Andy Carroll and Steven Gerrard while Luis Suarez is ineligible having played for Ajax in the same competition earlier this season.
What does King Kenny mean with “open a can of beans”? Can anyone explain?
Better then “Open a can of worms” and worse then “Open a can of whopass”
It means he can open a can of beans.
he means, open up the defence, of a football team , carve them open, twist and turn, open them up.
I can also open a can of beans, wish I got paid £90k a week to do that!
