See SWNS story SWFERRY; A couple booked on the Brittany Ferries car ferry to Santander in Spain almost missed their crossing when they followed theirsat nav – on to the Torpoint ferry to cross the river Tamar. The Brittany Ferries Pont Aven which operates the route to Spain can carry 2400 passengers and has a gross weight of 41,000 tonnes, the Torpoint ferry on the other hand has a dead weight of 245 tonnes, can carry 73 cars and costs £1.50 per crossing. It’s not the first time it has happened as Torpoint Ferry bosses reveal that scores of other passengers have been directed the wrong way. Bob and Pat Banks told how they ended up crossing the Tamar instead of the Channel thanks to the navigation blunder. “It was impossible to drive off; we were jammed in,” said Bob.
