Police issued an urgent appeal for information about a missing radio presenter today who is said to be ”depressed” and ”vulnerable” following the death of his father.
Former ITV anchorman Peter Rowell, 52, now with BBC Radio Bristol, failed to turn up to present his afternoon show on Tuesday sparking concern for his safety.
He was last seen at 8.30am on Tuesday morning when he set off for work as usual from his home in Wickwar, South Glos.
Police found his car parked at a Morrison’s supermarket in nearby Yate but are concerned as it has not been possible to contact him.
Peter is believed to be depressed after the death of his father. The pair had been estranged for many years, but had recently reconciled their differences.
A BBC spokesman said: ”Our main concern is for Peter’s welfare and we’ll provide all the support we can for his family.”
Father-of-one Peter, married to wife Mirinda, 47, is described as a white man with white or silver coloured hair. He is 5ft 10ins tall and of stocky build.
He is possibly wearing brown coloured jeans and a white shirt.
Avon and Somerset police have asked Mr Rowell, or anyone who may have information, to contact them.
Alex Lewis, the stand-in presenter for Mr Rowell’s afternoon radio show, told listeners tuning in at 2pm: ”It’s great to be back in your company. You weren’t expecting me, were you?
”He’s very healthy usually but today Mr Peter Rowell is a little bit under the weather, so I’m here instead.”
After playing the first song in the two-hour show, she added: ”I’m sitting in for Mr Rowell, as he’s a little bit poorly.”
