Cheryl Cole’s are-they-aren’t-they boyfriend Derek Hough has announced he will not be appearing in Dancing with the Stars next year after bagging his first Hollywood film role.
The dancer, who has won the show three times, will be starring in upcoming dance flick Cobu 3D playing a New Orleans street dancer who moves to New York and falls in love with an Asian drummer.
He explained to People magazine: “People will see a much edgier side of me and these other styles of dance I’m capable of doing.
“I will be making it back to Dancing with the Stars. I’m just taking a little break and taking this chance to grow and expand a little bit as an artist.”
Derek and Cheryl met when he appeared in the video for her single Parachute. During her interview with Piers Morgan the singer credited him with saving her life when she was struck down with malaria but refused to confirm whether they were an item.
She said: “I am not confirming or denying anything. People can think he’s my boyfriend, people can think he’s my best friend.”
