Cheryl Cole looks even closer to joining Simon Cowell on the US X Factor judging panel after a TV bigwig declared she would be ‘terrific’ for the role.
Cheryl Cole gets thumbs-up for Simon Cowell US X Factor from TV boss
Peter Rice, Head of Entertainment for the Fox network, told TV show Access Hollywood: “If Cheryl was to be on the show, I think she’s proved that she’s a terrific judge.”
He also praised her relationship with show boss Simon Cowell, saying: “She has wonderful chemistry with Simon.”
Although Cheryl was rumoured to be signing a huge £3 million deal to star on the show as a judge, she was thought to have run in to problems due to fears viewers would struggle to understand her Geordie dialect.
It has also been speculated that she may encounter difficulties securing a work visa due to her 2003 conviction for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Rice confirmed that Simon is still in talks with potential panel members, saying: “There’s great speculation. I think Simon is still meeting and trying to find the right mixture… It’ll be four judges as it is in England – it’s two men, two women… One of which will be Simon.
“Simon’s going to come to us and he’s going to say, ‘This is who I would like the judges to be.’ And we’ll have a conversation about it.”
The rumour mill has gone into overdrive in recent months regarding who may take up the highly-coveted judging seats alongside Simon. George Michael, Mariah Carey, Nicole Scherzinger, Noel Gallagher and even Mick Jagger have all been touted as possible choices.
