The Italian will receive backing from owner Roman Abramovich to make a serious offer for the Welsh international – just weeks after the club’s huge payout on moves for stars Fernando Torres and David Luiz.

The Stamford Bridge outfit will hope that the lure of a move of Champions League football should Chelsea pip Tottenham to fourth place in the Premier League will appeal to the youngster.

The re-building of a new generation of talent at Chelsea comes as The Blues aim to gain a further points advantage on their London rivals with a trip to Blackpool on Monday.

Both clubs are still gunning for the final Champions League berth with the Blues ahead on goal difference after Spurs twice let slip a one goal advanatge to draw at Wolverhamption Wanderers on Sunday.

The promise of guaranteed European football may prompt Bale to consider the move – despite becoming a fans’ favourite this season at White Hart Lane with his explosive pace on the wing.

The 21-year-old former Southampton man has already attracted the interest of European giants Inter Milan and Real Madrid follwoing his Champions League displays.

And after an unsure start to his Tottenham career Bale has now become an integral part of the North London club’s plans for the future with chairman Daniel Levy keen to secure the Welshman a new long term contract.
