A brazen fly-tipper has been caught on CCTV dumping an industrial-size fridge in an alleyway – before calmly cycling off.
The man can be seen balancing the huge object on his bicycle as he wheels it into the passage, knocking over someone’s bin on the way.
He then chucks the refrigerator on the ground, and after taking a quick look around, hops on his bike and cycles away down the alley.
Matthew McDonnell, 36, captured the criminal activity, which happened on July 18, on his CCTV camera at the back of his home in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
Mr McDonnell said: “I was in the shower after work and heard a massive thud come up through the plumbing and echo outside so I quickly had a look out the window.
“I saw a guy biking away from a massive fridge on the floor. When I reviewed my CCTV I have overlooking my gate and alley I saw the guy with a commercial size fridge with no doors balanced on his bicycle.
“It was so heavy his cycle tyres were pancakes, and he was casually strolling up the alley looking for a place to dump it.
“The area’s fly-tipping has increased in recent years, and I seem to be doing monthly footage for the local authority or police in some cases.”
Cllr Carl Smith, of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, condemned the dumping and said the authority was investigating.
He said: “In Great Yarmouth, we take a proactive, zero-tolerance approach to tackling fly-tipping.
“This is a crime which wastes public money in clear-up costs, damages the environment and is unfair on the vast majority of people who always dispose of their waste responsibly.”
