Could this be the most dangerous garden in Britain? After it was hit by three vehicles in just TWENTY MINUTES.
The astonishing collisions, all on black ice during the cold snap last Thursday, were caught on CCTV.
The staggering images show a van hitting and demolishing the fence and brick pillars, then a car hitting the fence again, and after that, a minibus hitting a tree – all outside the family home.
Now Hannah Jones, 32, and husband Ian, 36, are calling for help after having to replace their reinforced wrought iron fence three times in five years – after being hit six times in six years with countless near misses.
The pair and their three children, Alice, five, and twins, Isabel and Matilda, three, live at the corner of the main trunk junction in the village of Healing, Grimsby, North East Lincs.
The nature of the the junction at the end of The Avenue, which is a 1.2km poorly maintained straight road, means that drivers can arrive at it at speed.
The property, a four bed detached worth around £500,000, is directly opposite the junction on Oak Road.
Community nurse Hannah said: “We would like bollards or some traffic calming measure put in place before somebody is killed.
“Our children play out in the garden and it is also en-route to the local primary school.
“I don’t know what needs to happen before something is done about it.”
The mum-of-three was shocked when a van careered out of control and smashed into her gateway at 7.40am on Thursday, January 5.
After checking her CCTV camera 10 minutes later she was shocked to discover that, unbeknown to her, ANOTHER car had ploughed into the fence.
The driver failed to stop and report the collision. The CCTV footage shows what looks to be child in the rear seat of the car.
Astonishingly, 10 minutes later a minibus skidded on the ice and ploughed into the tree which stands outside the home.
The family moved into the property in 2011, and knowing its history the first thing they did was replace the old battered fence with a reinforced wrought iron one.
They hadn’t been in the house long when they needed to replace it – as it was hit twice in 2012.
After those incidents the pair installed CCTV to make sure they had evidence for any future collisions.
But now, three fences later and six accidents in, they are wanting urgent action.
Since the village bus was terminated six years ago, so too went the gritter van.
After their first crash they were supplied with a grit bin, which is located further down the road and they have to spread themselves.
But as Ian is an offshore wind supervisor and often works away, the job befalls to Hannah – quite hard when she is the mum to three young children.
Hannah said: “Nobody is going to grit the roads for us, because it is only us who has the problem with it. My husband does do it when needed but if I’m on my own it doesn’t get done.
“I understand that a gritter can’t come down here, I get that. But if they won’t grit the roads then some other measure needs to be taken.”
Husband Ian has written to North East Lincolnshire ward councillors and the MP for Cleethorpes Martin Vickers to highlight the risk and appeal for support.
“To date there have been six separate incidents at this junction in the last six years with countless other near misses being observed by local residents and the wider village community.
“Beyond this period more long term members of the Healing community can recall multiple severe incidents on a yearly basis at this junction as far back as the early 1980s.”
Hannah said: “We are speaking to the right people and have the community on board. We just now have to hope something is finally done about it.
“I hope these latest smashes will spring them into action. Being hit three times in 20 minutes is ridiculous.
“It goes to show it is not necessarily the fault of the drivers but a fault with the layout of the road.”
