The advert for the role to maintain the police vehicle fleet. See MASONS story MNCOPS. A cash-strapped police force is now recruiting a volunteer ‘detective’ to “find stolen property” and another to wash its patrol cars at Cambridge police station. The positions have been advertised by Cambridgeshire Constabulary for a car maintenance and cleaning volunteer and another to trawl around markets and auction websites looking for stolen goods. Police have admitted the move is a cost-saving exercise but campaigners say civilians should not be doing the job of detectives. Another cost-cutting move by the same force was reported in October 2015, where police were telling victims to speak to them via Skype, instead of seeing them in person.
