The average British bloke looks more like Peter Kay than David Beckham, it emerged today.
The rolypoly TV funnyman was revealed as the typical man in the street’s celebrity look-a-like by an iPhone app which measures facial contours before telling users which star they most resemble.
Premier David Cameron, Top Gear’s Richard Hammond and Radio One DJ Chris Moyles also emerged as top celeb-a-likes.
The app, celebrating 27,000 downloads since its launch in September, found the typical female user has similar features to singer Charlotte Church, Daybreak’s Kate Garraway or actress Cheryl Fergison, who plays Heather Trott in EastEnders.
Celebalike app spokesman Kevin Savage said: ”The app has been a huge success and people are downloading it in their droves to see which celebrity they look like.
”Many people often get told they have a resemblance to certain stars, so now they can find out for sure.
”Some people are really surprised when they discover who they look like but we can’t guarantee it’s always going to be flattering.”
”It’s completely free to download and you may find out you look like one of Hollywood’s biggest starts.”
The app works using a complex algorithm computer program that performs high-performance face identification and facial feature recognition.
So far blokes who have used the app have been found to look like Peter Kay, David Cameron, Richard Hammond and Chris Moyles.
Others have similar looks to party loving royal Prince Harry, shamed golfer Tiger Woods, Daybreak’s Adrian Chiles and Chelsea star Frank Lampard.
Overweight actor James Corden, R’n’B star Usher, cagefighter Alex Reid and much-loved telly host Eamonn Holmes also made the list.
Female celebrities who the nation’s women look like include former EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy, former Premier Tony Blair’s wife Cherie and Samantha Cameron, wife of David.
Pop queen Madonna, Radio One DJ Fearne Cotton, TV presenter Myleene Klass and Dragon Deborah Meadon also made the top ten.
A study carried out by Celebalike to launch the app revealed most deluded blokes believe they share David Beckham’s good looks.
It also emerged one in five adults is regularly told they look like a celebrity – and the majority of those look-a-likes are said to be positive rather than negative.
When the 3000 men and women who answered the survey were asked how good looking they were on a scale of one to ten, most rated themselves at 5.5.
An unfortunate five per cent said people often reminded them they were ‘ugly’, while a fortunate 55 per cent said they were regularly complimented on their good looks.
One in ten people said their ugliness had held them back in life.
