Britain’s worst learner driver is more than £2,000 out of pocket after failing his practical test – a staggering 38 times.
The hapless 40-year-old man, who has not been named, spent £2,356 on tests before finally passing at the 39th attempt.
Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act revealed the man is just one of hundreds of learners who have had to retake their test dozens of times over the last eight years.

The Driving Standards Agency revealed more than 100 people across Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs., failed their test at least six times before passing – at a cost of £62 a time.
Figures revealed five women, all aged 26, took 18 attempts to pass, while four 31-year-old men each passed on the 17th attempt.
Meanwhile, last year, 95 women aged between 18 and 46 failed six attempts, compared to 59 men in the same age range.
However, the same period saw 24 more men re-take their theory tests than women, with two men taking the written exam 15 times before they were successful.
Last year figures revealed a learner driver from Leicester forked out a whopping £2,852 on theory tests after failing the exam 92 times.
