An amateur archaeologist and metal detector believes he has discovered the biggest battlefield ever found in Britain – dating back to the English Civil War.
John Andrews, 64, has found more than 4,000 musket balls and 20 cannon balls around 350 years old in fields near his home.
John, of Par, Cornwall, claims the site – spread over the village of Tywardreath – could be the largest ever battlefield on British soil.
He is now working with experts from Glasgow University to map out the exact size and location.
John said: ”This is a significant historic battlefield discovery. We are looking at the biggest battlefield in Great Britain.
”There are a lot of houses built on the land in the village. I started to find 10 or 15 muskets in one place each time and it became more apparent it was a battlefield.”
