Bent: “Crazy” Carroll and Torres transfers have eased pressure

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent believes the “crazy” transfers of Andy Carroll and Fernando Torres have eased the pressure on him.

Bent - Crazy Carroll and Torres transfers have eased pressure

England striker Bent signed for the Midlands club in January in a deal that is thought to cost in the region of £24 million.

But his shock arrival at Villa Park was overshadowed by Liverpool signing Andy Carroll for £35 million and selling Fernando Torres to Chelsea for a Premier League club record £50 million.

Bent, who has scored ten goals in total this season, believes the megabucks deals which dwarfed his move have enabled him to get on with his game without all the pressure.

He told The Daily Star: “It was mad, more so because of Carroll’s transfer to Liverpool.

“He has played half a season in the Premier League and gone for £35m, so it is a bit crazy.

“Someone like Torres is proven in the top-flight and in my opinion is the best striker in the country, and if he goes for £50m you kind of think fair enough.

“It was a bit crazy, but it is the way the game is going at the moment. The money is going up and the stakes are getting raised.

“A lot of people seem to have forgotten about my transfer now, so I’ve just got on with it.”
