Maiden over! Teenage schoolgirl, 15, breaks record for cricket’s best score by a female bowler

A teenage cricketer has smashed the record for the best performance by a female bowler in the history of the game – aged just 15.

Talented Amy Hearn destroyed the opposition – taking seven wickets for just five runs in 3.4 overs.

The previous record was by Anya Shrubsole for England Women against South African Women – who took five wickets for 17 runs in 10 overs in 2013.

Amy Hearn, who plays for Whitburn Cricket Club in Sunderland, took the record haul during a Durham Cricket Board’s Under 15 girls in a local derby against Northumberland.

Amy, of South Bents, Sunderland, started playing cricket at the age of 13, after watching younger brother Elliott play for the under 11s.

Her father, and Whitburn Cricket Club coach, Trevor Hearn, said: “Amy always approaches everything with 100 per cent enthusiasm.

“But her interest and determination to succeed on the cricket field now takes priority over everything else in her life.”

Amy’s amazing performance in Durham colours came in the ECB Women’s U15 County Championship against Northumberland at Whickham CC.

After her side managed to score 199-6 after 40 overs, she tore the opposition to shreds with her 7-5 haul with the ball as they were bowled out for just 44.
