A 70-year-old grandmother has been warned she faces a jail term – after fraudulently claiming £18,000 in benefits.
Margaret Clarke, of Plymouth, Devon, was paid the housing benefit and council tax relief over a 14 year period.
But she failed to inform authorities that she had a private pension, Plymouth Magistrates Court heard.
She admitted ten charges of making false statements to claim £18,020.27 in benefit and warned she could be jailed.
Richard Speer, defending, said: ”She is mortified to appear in court for the first time at the age of 70.”
She was released on unconditional bail and will be sentenced on March 23.
