Emily McDonald, 21, was left devastated after battling what she thought was a routine bout of tonsillitis she was left fighting for her life after contracting the deadly disorder Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) within a month. Emily, who is a pub landlord, had to battle for her life after what started as a sore throat developed into Glandular Fever and finally GBS which left her unable to walk and talk after her immune system shut down. Emily had to be taken to the hospital by her parents in the middle of the night a month after she contracted tonsillitis as she could not move her body and the right side of her face dropped. Over a year on Emily has defied the odds and is now walking unaided after her 'year from hell' after being diagnosed with tonsillitis on the February, 5 last year.
