Formula 1 motor racing is an incredibly popular sport that is enjoyed in countries all across the globe.
For many, there’s no better feeling than settling down into your armchair on a Sunday afternoon, switching the TV on, cracking open a cold beer or a warm cup of tea, placing a bet or two and settling down in front of the TV for an afternoon/evening of Grand Prix F1 racing.
When you think of some of the amazingly talented drivers that have graced the F1 circuits over the decades, you can’t help but be impressed.
With names like Stirling Moss, Alain Prost, Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Jackie Stewart, and many more, Formula 1 motor racing has seen some incredibly talented racing drivers over the years.
Nowadays, we have some hugely talented drivers who are legends in the making. Lewis Hamilton, Jensen Button, Fernando Alonso to name but a few. But what is the future of F1 looking like? Will we see more legends emerge who will go down in history as being amongst the absolute best?
Here’s a look at 2020’s up and coming F1 stars.
Max Verstappen
Okay, this first addition may be slightly controversial as many would argue that Max Verstappen isn’t up and coming, but rather, is already established as a legend in the making.
Last year, many considered Max to be the number 2 racing driver in F1, second only to none other than Lewis Hamilton.
This young Dutchman for Red Bull Racing finished on the podium multiple times last year and finished third in the driver’s standings table.
Many predict that 2020, though, will be the year of the Dutchman and predict big things for Max for the remainder of the season.
Alex Albon
Alex Albon may not be a name synonymous with F1 motor racing quite yet, but give it time and that is very likely to change.
Alex Albon is another of Red Bull’s proteges and last season he really impressed.
Alex is of Thai heritage, yet he was born in London and has been in the motor racing industry for a heck of a long time.
Last season, Alex finished in 4th, 5th, and 6th place multiple times, yet this year experts predict top 3 podium finishes for this talented driver, and we’d be inclined to agree.
Sergio Perez
With a name like Sergio Perez, you just know that this flamboyant F1 racing driver is destined for the limelight.
Now, Sergio has had a very up and down career behind the wheel, and last season was very a season of two halves and ups and downs. If you had to use one word to sum Sergio up, it would be ‘consistent’.
He generally placed in the top 6, though with his team under the ownership of Lawrence Stroll, expect to see big things from Sergio this season.
Lando Norris
Lando Norris is another name you should keep tabs on this 2020 season.
Often overshadowed by his teammate Carlos Sainz, Lando proved to be a very capable driver last season, which is even more impressive considering he was in his rookie season.
Over the course of the 21 Gran Priz events, the Brit outqualified Carlos Sainz 11-10, and at the peak of his success, he actually found himself to be 8 – 4 ahead.
On paper, Norris wasn’t that impressive last season, but if you’d seen his races in person, you’d know that he was cursed with some extremely bad luck. He was involved in collisions which weren’t his fault, his car suffered mechanical issues, he lost power in Germany, and in Mexico he was even unfortunate enough to experience a botched pitstop which affected his placing greatly.
Despite this, McLaren saw the potential in this youngster and announced that both he and Sainz, would continue with the team next season.
