This exclusive Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport suffered £350,000 damage after it was involved in a high-speed collision with a lorry.
The £1.5 million supercar was travelling down the autobahn in Germany at 125mph on Sunday morning when another motorist pulled out to overtake a 16-wheel juggernaut.
According to the police report, the Veyron’s driver couldn’t brake in time and tried to push between the gap of the truck and overtaking car, hitting the front left corner of the truck with its front right corner before bouncing off into the car on the left lane.
Nobody was injured in the smash – but the lorry crashed into a guardrail and nearly tipped over, requiring a crane to return it to an upright position.
The Veyron’s owner has speculated the damage to be around £350,000 – the same as TWO new Ferrari 458 Italias. This is, after all, a car which uses a set of tyres costing a staggering £23,500.
The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport is one of the world’s most expensive cars – costing a cool £1.5 million.
It’s powered by an 8-litre W16 engine which develops 1,001bhp and is capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 2.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 252mph. With the roof removed, it is still capable of 223mph.
Bugatti have sold just 35 of these ultra-fast convertibles – with only 22 of the machines delivered worldwide.
This is the first known crash involving a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport but the standard Veyron has been in two incidents – one in Surrey in 2007 and one in Texas last year when it was captured on camera crashing into a lake.
In August the driver of a £2.5 million McLaren F1 crashed into two cars on the autobahn after swerving to avoid a slower driver who had pulled out in front.
