Three men have been arrested on suspicion of blackmailing Man United star Wayne Rooney’s wife Coleen over photographs of the couple’s baby son Kai.
The Manchester Evening News has reported that the criminals demanded a ‘five-figure sum’ from Coleen in exchange for private photographs found on a misplaced camera.
Coleen had been attending a Black Eyed Peas concert at the MEN Arena with hubby Wayne when she lost a camera containing ‘treasured’ pictures of her one-year-old son Kai.
The crooks are thought to have offered various media outlets the family snaps before approaching Coleen with their demands.
The fiercely protective WAG has famously refused to allow pictures of her baby son’s face to be printed in the media.
Police were called as soon as the threats were made and two men and a woman have been arrested. Coleen could be called to give evidence if the case goes to trial.
British Transport Police, who are responsible for policing the concert venue, confirmed the arrests.
A spokesperson said: “We are investigating an allegation of blackmail which was reported to us in September 2010.
“As a result of these investigations we have arrested three people – two men and a woman.
“They are currently on police bail pending further inquiries.”
Ian Monk, spokesperson for the Rooneys, said: “Wayne and Coleen take their son’s privacy very seriously and they cannot say anything else at this stage.”
